Hello There!

<cough! cough>

Excuse me, while I wipe away all the dust that's accumulated on this blog over the past... oh, I don't know... 5 years <yikes!!!> Yeah, just reading that makes me shiver. But the reason for the silence... ok, ok- disappearance... is one that I do not regret. I became a mom!

In May 2012, I gave birth to our daughter, Penelope. As a first time mom, I wanted to spend every second with her. I didn't want to miss a single giggle, stumble or smile. So I took some time away from the studio and I fell in love with my new role as "Mom". So much so, that in 2015 we welcomed our son, Ori, into our family. And it was no different with him. I wanted to be there to see his face when he took his first taste of solid food (butternut squash- and no, not a fan), laughed at his sisters' silly antics for the very first time and took his first wobbly steps.

I'm SO grateful that I have been able to take this time and be with my kiddos during these early, fleeting years. And, while I'm still loving my job as "Mom", I've also missed photographing so many wonderful families and creating art that will be passed down for generations.

So, now, after 5 awesome years- I'm ready to be "Mom" and "Artist". I'm ready to welcome that balance into my life and can't wait to show you how being a Mom has also opened up a whole new perspective of artistry and creativity for me. I want everything to reflect this new perspective and creative vision- so I invite you to view my new website! It's been a huge labor of love and devotion, and its truly been feeding my soul- being able to create something that not only makes me smile but that I'm extremely proud of. I'm honored that you're here to take a look, and I'm happy to be back!

- Cynthia

* my two little munchkins happen to be featured above- Penny (far left) was about 6mo and Ori (far right) was around 1mo. Time sure does fly!

And We're Back! | Los Angeles Lifestyle Photography

It's been a long time. A VERY long time. There's been quite a lot of activity over here that has caused the mega pause in posting, updating, facebook-ing [Yes. I made up a word. But I think it's a good one, no?], or any sort of communication at all. But I assure you... we are here and it's all for good reason. Since our last post we have been non-stop shooting, have traveled to the east coast and mid-west,  moved to a bigger and better space, and are currently preparing for our biggest adventure yet!

Any guesses? Yep. That's right. We are expecting our first child! Needless to say we are BEYOND OVER THE MOON THRILLED!!!

Pregnancy has been, for the most part, an incredible and joyous experience. There's nothing better than feeling your little one kick and move, and watching your belly grow and change. And don't get me started on the pure excitement that runs through your entire being the morning of a sonogram appointment! The first time we saw our little pea [that's what we nick-named baby since he/she was the size of a pea when we first found out we were pregnant] I was brought to tears. My heart was flooded with pure joy and excitement. I swear I saw my husband start to tear up too. Though, if you ever tell him that, he will most likely deny any sort of thing ever happening. It was a twinkle of excitement. Not a tear.

Our little one is due in early June. And we are happily knee deep in nursery planning, gear researching, and house prepping! I love design, so the move + the addition of getting to plan a nursery has been complete heaven to me! Although, I have found it more difficult than ever to make final design decisions now. I "blame" this on the pregnancy. :) Once it's all done I'll be sure to document it in it's entirety and of course, share with you how it turned out!

In the meantime, we have tons of images form last year [in addition to the ones above] to share + I might even post an occasional few of my remaining pregnancy journey [now that I am finally showing!].

* I am still shooting maternity and family sessions through the end of April and newborn shoots through mid May. However, post production times may be longer than usual due to baby. :)

simply sweet | los angeles baby photography

Simply put... these photographs make me smile. Pure. Simple. Soft. And, oh! that yummy yummy light. But what I love most about these photos is all their love for this sweet baby girl that comes shining through!

After nearly a month away caring for family, and a whirl-wind of a month of non-stop shooting... looking at these images reminds me to slow down, enjoy life's simple little pleasures, and to cherish the truly important things in life: Love. Family. Simplicity.

south florida engagement | nicole + victor

They say that money can't buy happiness. And for the most part I believe that's true. But when I met these two, my perspective was forever altered. Nicole and Victor met at a bank. They were both tellers and there was instant chemistry. But upon first meeting, Nicole was in a relationship with someone else. However, determined Victor didn't let that stand in the way of love. After weeks of uncontrollably giddy flirting [and Nicole realizing her current bf just couldn't hold a candle to Victor] Victor took a leap of faith and asked her on a date. The rest is, shall we say... history. Ok... so really money didn't buy them happiness. But it did bring them to meet. And that meeting led to love!

Nicole, you're a natural in front of the camera- work it girl!

Nicole and Victor- I can't wait to photograph your wedding in September!

lions, monsters, & april fools | los angeles baby photography

It's April 1st 2011. April Fools Day. A day of pranks, jokes, and all things silly and tricky! To be quite honest... April 1st has always made me a little apprehensive. Probably because I am quite possibly one of the most gullible, clumsy, and easily frightened  people on the planet. It's true. For example- my husband, after nearly 10years together, continues to jump out from behind every corner possible while "rawring" at me in a scary monster growl with his hand bent up claws. And even though I know it's coming... I still jump back and gasp in fear. After I recompose myself from the initial heartbeat-skipping scare... we both laugh as I tell him how to never do that to me again [which , let's be honest, we both know he still will.]. Another example that took place today- While video chatting with my father this morning, he informed me [in an urgent tone] that he received a phone call earlier from someone by the name "Lions", looking to speak with me. Now, I feel it necessary to explain that not only I have I not lived my parents in over 10 years, but I no longer live in South Florida either. Anyways, he wouldnt tell my dad what his call was in regards to, but instead gave him a phone number and asked that I call him back. So I took down the number. I couldnt get over how weird and "suspicious" this all seemed, so as I was about to pick up the phone and call... it dawned on me. "THIS IS AN APRIL FOOLS TRICK ISN'T IT?!?!" I exclaimed! My father's immediate burt of intense laughter led me to believe I was right. It had happened again. I was fooled. But I must say... dad did good this year. The number he gave me was to the Miami Metropolitan Zoo. Get it?!  Zoo... Mister "Lions". Hysterical.

Here's to wishing everyone a very Happy April 1st + Happy April Fools Day!

And just because posts are no fun without a picture or two... These six images of this adorable little guy were printed on canvas and hung just as they are shown below. His parents love him so so much and wanted to remember all the little details and important info about their newborn baby boy so we designed the outside edge of the canvas so that each one displayed a different fact about him at birth [name, weight, height, etc.]. It came out even better than I imagined and is simply stunning on their wall!

beautiful in malibu | malibu family photography

Forgive me for being short on words today. There's quite a bit going on. But I just had to share these adorable images. K Family you are gorgeous both inside and out! Your love for one another comes shining through in these photographs!  I love that grandma was able to make a "special cameo" too! I hope you are loving your photos as much as I do. I can't wait to see you guys again and see how much your little one has grown!

a birthday + the girls + film | lake cuyamaca , ca

It started as a surprise. A birthday extravaganza if you will. One of my very best friends and I wanted to surprise our other bestie with a birthday to remember! We started the planning and plotting last year and not long after we had nothing short of the perfectly planned best girls weekend. Ever. We took care of all the details. Travel arrangements. Food. Activities. Everything. We planned a trip out  to Lake Cuyamaca just outside of Julian, Ca. If you're not familiar with Julian it's known for it's many apple orchards and "world's best apple pie". Trust me when I say the orchards are adorable and on a crisp autumn day during prime apple-picking season you can smell the apple pies from miles away. And yes, they are A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. We drove out on a friday night. Departing much later than intended [hey don't judge- getting 5 girls together to leave on time is bear impossible for anyone!] and our gridlocked drive was full of music, laughter, and lots of talking. When we finally arrived our "cabin/condo" was a welcoming site greeting us with comfy beds and fireplace just begging to be used! We lit a fire and enjoyed the clear sky full of stars and the fresh, chilly air outside.

The next day was full of adventure! A fishing lesson. A trip into Julian. And the worlds most interesting geocaching experience. Ever. I'm talking path becoming lake becoming cold mushy socks and shoes. But it was all worth it! We had a blast. Made our friends birthday one to remember. And I, well... I soaked up every inch of photo opportunity that I could find! I of course brought my baby- my big 'ol digital camera. But this weekend was when I got to break in my most favorite new purchase in a long time. My Diana F+.  This cute little plastic toy camera makes my heart skip! Why? Two reasons: it's pretty + it shoots film.

That's right. FILM. There is just something about film that I am totally in love with. The look. The waiting. The colors. The surprise. Mix that with the medium format, overly simplistic nature that is the Diana camera and... Swoon...It's amazing! This first round of photos is all shot on film. It was definitely a re-learning process [I haven't loaded film in years. Let alone medium format film-ever.] but I love the results. Light leaks and all.

These make me smile. From ear to ear to be exact!

punkanista | los angeles baby photography

Yes. I made up a word. My own word. But this word perfectly describes this adorable little babe + her mom... Think fashionista meets punk rock chic! From the moment I stepped into their home I knew this family was full of life, love, and rock-n-roll! Seriously.  Even Miss P's nursery was fabulous! From the perfectly purple walls to the graphic/punk-graffiti artwork that adorned them to her incredible wardrobe [my closet was totally jealous after it saw hers!] my camera was is visual heaven! I mean who could resist those amazingly blue eyes... and that hat? don't get me started! So. Much. Fun.

brand new | los angeles baby photography

It's 2011. A new year. A new beginning.  It's a chance to start fresh. To take things that you've been doing and revamp them. Improve upon them. To challenge yourself. Take a leap of faith. Learn from your successes. And your failures. A new year is like that first sunny day after a week long storm. It feels good. Feels alive. It feels inspiring. 2011 brings with it some new additions, big changes, and lots of goals for CSP! Here are just a few of those goals and changes I hope to accomplish this year:

1. Update the website. I’ve been putting this off for a while now, but it’s time to give the site a facelift.

2. Blog more often!! I’ll admit it... I’m a terrible blogger. There. I said it.

3. Make the blog more personal. I have struggled with wether or not to do this for some time now, but I’ve decided to give it a try. After all, choosing a photographer to welcome into your home and to get to know and photograph your family is a very important decision. You need to connect with not only my photography... but it's important to connect with me. As a person AND as an artist. I think by making the blog a little more personal it will allow you to not only get to know my work, but to get to know me as well!

Now, I have to be honest... my life really isn’t that exciting. Occasionally, I might have a few stories here and there that could be worth sharing. They'll most likely be about my cat. Or the last clumsy thing I just did. But they might make you laugh. I’d also like to get to know my readers better! Send me your thoughts. Share your ideas!

4. Give back! In 2009 I organized several food drives/raffles with local schools and Feeding America. The food drives were such a success! It taught kids about the importance of community, raised food to help feed thousands of families in Los Angeles, and gave parents the chance to win a free goodies from CSP! Organizing these food drives was incredible. There is no better feeling then giving back! I can't wait to to do more!

Now, before I make good on my promise of blogging more... I want to take this opportunity to say a big THANK YOU to all of our clients, readers, friends, and family. CSP wouldn't be here without you. I am so grateful to have all of you in my life and part of the CSP family!

And finally, onto some photos...

What a joy he was to photograph!

Mom first contacted me when she was still in her second trimester [the perfect time to schedule!] and I could hear her excitement through her sweet and gentle voice. She was going to be a Mom for the very first time. She was doing everything she could to plan and prepare. She was, truth be told, a little nervous. When the day finally arrived for me to photograph baby 'C', I knew I wanted to make Mom feel at ease and give her great shots so she would always remember her first few days with her baby boy. Her first few days as "Mom".

smiling on the inside | santa monica family photography

This past Saturday I headed to the Santa Monica Pier with my hubby, Armando, for a late afternoon get together/photo shoot with friends of ours and their adorable little daughter! I had been looking forward to this shoot for a few weeks now... dreaming of all the yummy light that I could play with as we captured some photos. But as we got closer and closer to the beach, the skies got gray-er and gray-er [is that even a word?!]. My heart sank... but just for a little bit. The skies actually reminded me of my last session down at the Pier that had some very similar weather.  So I smiled. On the inside. And then I realized I never blogged that session! In fact, I haven't blogged many sessions! While the photos from this past Saturday are not quite ready, I am glad to finally be posting these... The photos from the session that made me smile. relax. and realize that a gray, sunless, fogged filled afternoon shoot at the beach can be just as beautiful!

Simply Sweet | Malibu Family Photoghraphy

It's been quite a year for me both professionally and personally- there have been ups and downs [thankfully many more ups!], lots of shoots, and a bunch of traveling! One thing I've really come to understand this year is that life is a journey and through every experience we are able to grow, conquer fears, plow through obstacles, and knock down hurtles that may have once stood in our way. This past month alone has been an incredibly difficult one... I feel like have ridden that "super scary, faster than light, 50-foot drop" emotional roller-coaster one too many times... but, yet, every time I get off I am surrounded by hope and love. I am truly amazed by the strength of the human spirit and how love, above all else, has the power to heal. Every day is a gift. It's not easy to remember. It's not easy to live each day in this mindset. But it's something I strive to embrace.

These photos were taken back in March at a beautiful spot tucked away in Malibu, and every time I look at them they remind me of the huge amount of love this family has for one another- and that makes me smile. Inside and out.

'H' Family you are such a beautiful family to know and work with! I hope you are enjoying your photos- and I can't wait until we shoot again!

Dad | Father's Day 2010

He uses words like "iota" and "m.o." [and then proceeds to explain that m.o. is actually "modus operandi", approximately translated into "method of operation"].  He calls on a daily a basis just to say hello. He leaves funny voicemail messages with silly questions that really have no answer.... like "If a word was misspelled in the dictionary...how would we know?" He has always been there for me and always will be. He is my friend and my father. And, although I can't be with him this Father's Day, he knows that I love him and that my heart and my thoughts are with him today as they are every day.

this photo seriously makes me smile! it's such a great shot of my dad and it was taken at my wedding last september! thanks eric for this photo!

And to celebrate all of the wonderful Father's out there- enjoy this day as we recognize you for all of your love, support, hard work, and devotion that you give each and every day! Some of my favorite "dad shots" from 2010:

From Across the Pond | Los Angeles Family Photographer

This family was so much fun to meet and photograph! Little "N" is as adorable as can be, super sweet, and has tons of energy [perhaps it has something to do with that gorgeous red hair!]. I was super excited to meet this family because I love photographing new clients, but really it was because I just couldn't wait to talk with them more! Mom is from England and Dad, from South Africa and they have the most amazing accents- EVER- and  I have what I like to call "accent envy". I have had it for as long as I can remember. It started way back in junior high when I visited Europe with my family, and it grew even deeper, most likely, because some of my very best friends throughout junior high and high school were from across the pond. My "accent envy" goes so deep, that for about a year and a half of high school my friends and I spoke with horribly fake English accents. We were young, and silly, and well... let's just leave it at that! So, when Mom and I spoke on the phone for the first time, hearing her accent brought back so many wonderful memories and happy feelings. And, yes you guess it, it  brought back my accent envy. BIG TIME. I couldn't wait to meet and chat and soak up all of their accent-glorious-ness [how's that for a fun made-up word!?] Needless to say, we ended up chatting for quite a long time. And, then when we met up again to create their gorgeous album, we chatted even more. Even longer. They are so sweet and so funny- I think I was laughing our entire time together.

I just love when I am able to connect like this with the families I photograph! Their photographs truly show who they are inside and the deep connection among them as a family! Here are just a few of my favorite shots from our session that took place in between our chatting!

a reason to pause | Los Angeles Fine Art Photography

The past two months have been completely amazing to me! I have been busier than ever and although I am loving every second of it, it has left little time for blogging. It's true. I'm a bad blogger. In fact... it's really an understatement. But hey, the first step to overcoming a problem is admitting it, right?! At least in my head it is. With that being said, you would think I would be posting pictures from some of my super adorable shoots... but instead, I am taking the time to post some images of something that literally made me stop in my tracks. breathe. smile. and reflect on just how completely blessed I am.

Every Spring when my favorite grocery stores and local farmer's markets get the most gorgeous supply of fresh daffodils, I just have to buy a bunch [or two or three] and spread them throughout my home and office. They are so bright and vibrant... the minute I see them an instant feeling of happiness, rejuvenation, and inspiration comes over me. One day, as I was walking past our bedroom I peeked inside and caught a glimpse of cheery, glowing yellow and it made me pause. just for a moment. because then i ran to grab my camera so I could capture the feeling of happiness and warmth that these simple, spring-time daffodils give me...

Now... whenever I want to slow down for a moment. smile. and be inspired- I look at these images. They remind me pause. and appreciate everything life has given me.

Leaves and Lemons | Los Angeles Child and Family Photography

Lately it seems as though I have had many "Sibling Sessions"- which I TOTALLY love! As an only child, I love to photograph siblings and see the love, playful competition, and complete adoration they have for one another. It's like getting to be with your best friend all the time! I got the chance to photograph this brother and sister team back in early January and they were such a joy to photograph! We played in the leaves, laughed a lot, and Mom even sent me home with a big bag full of home-grown meyer lemons [which later made a delicious lemon tart!]- how great it that!?

Here are a few of my favorites from our time together....

Thanks again, Mom, for the yummy lemons! I can't wait to see what your adorable kiddos are up to again soon.

Sweet Siblings | Los Angeles Baby Photography

Way back in November of 2009 I photographed these two little cuties! [I know...I know.... I am a bad blogger...] In fact, Mom had first contacted me in May but due to a cold, the weather, a few more colds, and coordinating several peoples schedules we just couldn't get our session in until November! Well, needless to say when we finally did meet we had an absolute blast! Sweet little "A" has the most adorable, fun, and energetic personality and her baby brother "J" is about as cool and calm as any baby could be! Jumping on the bed and lots of bribery... umm, I mean candy... kept this session playful and allowed for some super images!
